AS Media Project

I was unable to take the pictures i wanted to over the weekend so this week i could not complete my front cover. Instead i have completed my contents page although it does not yet have any pictures. I plan to take pictures this weekend and complete my magazine next week in time for easter.

This week i have established the basic look of my magazine. I have the page for my feature article layed out and ready to put in pictures and text. I also have the basic colours chosen of the front cover. I have started more research into the recent fashion of The Saturdays. I have done this because i cannot take the pictures without knowing what The Saturdays fashion is.
Over the weekend i hope to get my pictures taken ready to write my article and finish my front cover in the next lesson.

This week i have completed my powerpoint presentaion and the script to go with it. I included all my final bits of research and also a schedule of what i intend to do next, I did this to show the progression i have made and also to reinforce the fact that although my research is complete i also have alot of work to do in order to have my magazine completed on the deadline.
Next week i will start with the makiing of my magazine.

This week i have added more slides into my presentation. I have added slides about the content of the magazine and the audience profiling slide. When writing my script for the content slide i decided to include my decision of replacing Britney Spears with The Saturdays. I did this because i thought it was an important part of my research and shows how my magazine came together.
The audience profiling slide mentions what i am going to do with my magazine in order to aim it at that specific age group.
Next week i hope to finish my powerpoint presention so i can start with the making of my magazine.

This week i carried on with my powerpoint presentation. I made slides on my existing products research and showed how i found out about the magazines simular to mine were cancelled. I also made slides on the detailed cover analysis i did a few weeks ago. I mentioned briefly what i had noticed about the cover i looked at. Finally i made slides on the layout i intend to use. I decided to include this part of my research in my presentation because i found it to be important in completeing my magazine. I found making these slides were not as time consuming as the last ones because i had already done the research.
Next week i plan to carry on with my presentation and start making a script for it in preparation for presenting infront of the class.

This week i started my powerpoint presentation. This task was set in order to show the research we had done and also to pitch my ideas to the rest of the class. I completed only a few slides today, i have found this to be more time consuming than i had originally thought. This is because as well as completing the slides i looked at the press complaints commission website. This website is a method the public uses to complain about a magazine or newspaper and so is quite important for my project. I found the website to include a useful 16 point code that all members of the press have to obtain. I will include information about this website in my power point presentation as it is a significant part of my research.
Next week i plan to carry on with my powerpoint presentation in order to show all my current research.

Through the use of my questionnaire i found that the best band to do my feature article on would be The Saturdays. This week i have reasearched them and have changed my mind on what i would write about. Originally i wanted to do a reveiw of a concert they performed and do an interveiw with girls who attented. I have changed this into doing the fashion of the Saturdays and giving a make over to fans including pictures. I believe this would be more suitable as it combines music with something young girls would be interested in. Therefore they are more likely going to want to read and buy the magazine as it combines the two markets. I believe this is where past music magazines went wrong, for girls of that age, it is not only about the music but the fashion and make-up that they are interested in. They have other ways of acssessing the music scene such as the internet. Next week i will start my power-point presentation with all my current research in that i will eventually present to the rest of the class.

This week i have completed the full contents listing of my magazine. I did this by looking at a combination of music magazines and magazines aimed at young girls. I have yet to decide how i will lay my contents page out and what specific order i will put them in. It will include:
The Saturdays interview
Music quiz
Girls Aloud fashion
Make up styles of pop stars
Lyrics of new songs
Reviews
Posters
I think my target audience will be interested in reading my magazine if it includes these things. Next week i will research into my feature article.

In my questionnaire I asked the girls to choose who they preferred out of five current artists. Originally I used Girls Aloud, Take That, Katy Perry, Beyonce and Britney Spears. Whilst researching and collecting pictures I found that any information on Britney spears was often very negative and not about her music, more about her personal life. Pictures of her were very mostly very unflattering or very revealing none of which are suitable for my target audience if I want to promote a positive message. I then changed the option of Britney spears to the Saturdays because they are much more suitable to a younger audience.

From my questionnaire I found that Girls Aloud and The Saturdays were the favourite groups of my target audience. I have decided to do my article on The Saturdays as they are the newest band out of the two. I will work girls aloud into another feature of the magazine.

I found this research to be quite time consuming and therefore i did not get any ideas of the contents listing for my magazine. I will complete this task next week.

During the christmas break I did a detailed analysis a front cover of the magazine smash hits. As they don’t sell these anymore I had to get an image from google and I had to buy a non music magazine aimed at the same audience as me. I first noticed the colours and saw that the main colour used was pink. Bright and dark which are contrasting, to make it eye catching. The pink has very girly connations and makes it clear that the magazine is aimed at girls. I then looked at the pictures used. The celebrities chosen to be in the magazine are those which the target audience will want to read about. Chantelle is included who is not a singer – this may be to boost sales as she was very popular at the time of release. Lots of pictures used give connations of the magazine being interesting.

Exclamatives are used to attract attention of the audience. Quotations of interesting parts of the interview also attract attention and both make the magazine seem exciting.
The simple lexis used reflects the fact that it is aimed at a younger audience. The fonts used are easy to read showing that magazine is clear and easily reaches its target audience. Capital letters are used in some statements to reinforce how important and exciting they are.

Next i will look into what i want my magazine to include and make the final decision on what my feature article will be.
